Bad news for India! Iran is cutting internet cables!

Uncategorized

Hello, I am Drishti Upadhyay. At a time when a major oil and gas crisis has hit the entire world due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, and an energy lockdown has been initiated in several countries including the Philippines, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. In India, too, Prime Minister Modi has appealed to the public to take precautions, similar to the times of Corona. The prices of petrol, diesel, and milk have been increased. Right at this time, another big crisis is looming over many countries of the world, including India.

The signal of this crisis has been received from Iran’s recent announcement because Iran is now going to cut the cables of the internet, with which the communication system of the entire world is connected. This means that after cutting the internet, the connection of many countries with the world will also be cut off. In such a scenario, a question must be rising in your mind as well: if this happens, what will be its impact on India? And is it possible for Iran to do so? Actually, the situation in the world is changing rapidly at this time. The impact of the Iran-America war has started showing on everything, from oil prices to global supply and the internet. This is the reason why this war is no longer just a fight between two countries but has become a trouble for the entire world. Now, its impact is slowly reaching every part of common life.

It started with military action, but now its effects have moved beyond the battlefield to cutting off connections. Recently, Iran gave a big threat to cut the internet cables or to impose charges on them. Iran’s military spokesperson, Ibrahim Zolfaghar, making an announcement on a social media platform, said that we will impose a fee on internet cables. This means companies might have to pay money to use the internet cables laid under the sea. In this way, Iran has caught a weak nerve under the ocean. If it plays this game, the internet of the entire world could come to a standstill because the world’s internet, banking system, and digital traffic run through these very cables. Today, the world’s internet looks like magic. But in reality, 99% of its traffic passes through fiber optic cables laid under the sea. These cables transmit data from one country to another at the speed of light. International banking operates through these cables. Online payments take place. Cloud servers work. AI systems and data centers remain connected, and the world’s digital business runs.

This means that if a major disruption occurs in these cables, the impact will not just be on internet speed, but it could affect the entire global economy. This is not the first time that the threat to undersea cables has come into discussion. Many times in history, communication networks have been targeted. In recent years, an example was seen when the damage to some cables in 2024 affected a large part of regional internet traffic. A large network of internet cables exists beneath the Strait of Hormuz. This region is very crucial not just for oil, but also for the internet. Now, let us also know what impact Iran’s step will have on India. Actually, several major cables pass through the region of the Strait of Hormuz, which includes prominent cables like Falcon, GBI, and 2Africa. These cables handle internet traffic between Asia, Africa, and Europe. This means a large part of the world is connected through this route.

This matter is even more important for India because many of these cables come directly to India and connect in Mumbai and Chennai. These very cables connect India with the Gulf countries, Europe, and Africa. India’s major telecom companies like Airtel and Jio are also connected to these networks. In such a situation, if any obstruction occurs on this route, fees increase, or cables are damaged, its impact will directly fall on the people of India. In today’s time, the internet is not limited just to social media. Banking, UPI payments, office work, online education, video streaming, and companies’ data—everything depends on this. If Iran cuts its wires, it will create a massive crisis. Now, it remains to be seen what steps Iran takes. Keep watching Zee News. Hello.
