Taiwan, to which India has always given diplomatic support against China’s pressure, is today seeing posters being put up against Indians. In the posters, India’s flag is shown upside down, an Indian man is shown in a turban, and not only that, it is written in large letters: Indians Don’t Come Here.
This means that hatred against Indians is now clearly visible in Taiwan, and it has directly become an election issue here. In such a situation, the question arises whether Taiwan also now wants to gather votes through anti-India politics because this is not an isolated incident. In the year 2023 as well, there were protests against Indian workers in Taiwan. A campaign was run on social media: Indians Don’t Come Here. And all this happened when Taiwan itself was preparing to call 1 lakh skilled workers from India.
Now look at this entire incident. Taiwan wants Indian engineers, wants Indian workers, wants Indian talent. But the question arising in such a situation is whether discomfort regarding Indian workers is increasing in a section of Taiwan? Actually, Taiwan’s biggest problem is that its population is continuously declining. Like Japan, South Korea, and China, the fertility rate is rapidly falling in Taiwan as well. Working people are falling short, the population is falling short, and that is why they need workers from outside. And who is the biggest alternative for Taiwan?
That is India. But the kind of racism coming out openly here against Indians has increased anger in India too. The most surprising thing is that at a time when China is continuously increasing pressure on Taiwan, targeting the people of a potential partner like India at the same time is also being considered a strategic mistake for Taiwan. Senior Taiwan government official Joseph Wu himself criticized this campaign. He said that some local leaders are doing all this just to get attention. But the question still remains that if the government is serious, then why are such incidents coming forward and happening again and again? Remember some time ago a Taiwanese minister had said that they specifically want North East Indian workers from India because their skin color is like Taiwanese people.
Think about it, even in 2026, humans are being judged on the basis of their skin color, and this is the most dangerous thing because hatred started online slowly begins to enter real life.
