A star who, instead of running after fame, made his identity through his talent, who gave a new direction to Indian rock music and who gave courage to countless youngsters to pick up the guitar and live their dreams.
But sadly, now there will be no guitar in his hands. There will be no presence of his on stage and nor will those magical tunes coming from his fingers ever be heard again because such news has come from the music world that has made every person who loves rock music emotional.
We are talking about legendary guitarist Mahesh Tinaykar, who passed away at the age of 63. With his departure, the world of Indian rock music has lost a star whose shine will continue to be felt for generations to come. But the most emotional thing is that the news of the farewell of an artist who dedicated his life to music has put the artists who worked with him and his admirers into deep shock.
According to reports, Mahesh Tinaykar passed away on October 15th in Mumbai. It is being told that he had been having health-related problems for some time. Just about two weeks ago he had complained of stomach pain and according to media reports he was also undergoing an endoscopy process at a hospital in Borivali, Mumbai. But then he had a heart attack and after that his life’s journey stopped forever.
He had started moving towards music. Music of international bands like Deep Purple, The Who and Creedence Clearwater Revival created a different kind of passion inside him. In 1984, he released an album named Rock Machine with his companions and his journey did not remain limited to memories of old songs only. In March 2026, Indus Creed performed at the show of British rock band Def Leppard in Mumbai as well.
But now that same voice has fallen silent forever. Whether it is Farhan Akhtar’s tribute or Vishal Dadlani’s emotional message, the same feeling is being felt everywhere that some artists don’t just make songs, they leave behind a whole legacy. Mahesh Tinaykar was also one of those artists. He worked in that era of Indian rock music when roads were not easy for this genre. He on his own made that road a little wider so that the coming generations could move forward on it.
Today even though he may not be among us, whenever a guitar tune inspires any youngster to step into the world of music, whenever any song of the industry reminds of an old era, then his name and his contribution will definitely be remembered.
