So why did someone who took such good care of his body suffer a cardiac arrest? There are many causes of cardiac arrest. One frequently cited cause is excessive smoking. Nana Patekar has repeatedly revealed his heavy smoking habit. He shared that he had a son named Durvasa. He was born with significant complications. In addition to his health, one of his eyes was also affected. Nana Patekar said that Durvasa passed away at the age of two and a half, and after that, I was overcome with guilt. I felt sad that I didn’t see my child suffer; instead, I was worried about how he looked and how the world would perceive him.

When I felt this guilt, I became addicted to smoking and started smoking heavily. I used to smoke 60 cigarettes a day. He used to finish three whole packs of cigarettes a day. In fact, many people even stopped riding in his car because it smelled of cigarette smoke. Nana Patekar smoked heavily until the age of 56. Then an incident occurred that made Nana Patekar quit smoking. Nana Patekar said that his sister’s son had passed away. He had gone to visit his sister. At that time, Nana Patekar was coughing a lot. He was smoking and coughing.

Then his sister looked at him and said, “I have lost my son. I don’t know what else I have to face now.”Nana Patekar was so impressed by his sister’s words that when he returned to Mumbai, he did not smoke. He did not smoke for a day, two days, three days. Many days passed like this and he told his sister that he had not smoked a cigarette, and thus he gave up his smoking habit. Otherwise, Nana’s smoking habit was such that he would smoke even while bathing. He had said in an interview, “In one hand I am bathing, in the other hand I have a cigarette. I was such a heavy smoker. I could not live without cigarettes.” Nana Patekar maintained this routine continuously till the age of 56.
