But the death of this veteran actor shocked everyone. The actor who won the hearts of millions with his acting on screen, many questions came up before his last farewell which were widely discussed. His father worked in the railways but the financial condition of the family was not good. The situation became such that Om Puri had to work at a tea stall in his childhood itself. At the mere age of 6-7 years, he used to clean tea glasses and utensils to help his family. At an age when children have toys in their hands, at that age Om Puri’s life was full of difficulties and he was learning to fight them.But he had a dream inside him – to make his identity in the world of acting. Poverty came in his way,
difficulties also came but he did not give up. On the strength of his hard work, he took admission in the National School of Drama and here he met a talented artist like Naseeruddin Shah. His journey which started from theatre slowly reached films.Om Puri did such films in his career in which his acting was highly praised. He played different characters in films like Ardh Satya, Aakrosh, Maqbool, Ghayal, Chachi 420. His specialty was that he breathed life into his character without any show-off. Along with Hindi films, he also worked in international films and made his own distinct identity. He was honored with the National Film Award twice and he also received the Padma Shri in 1990.But at the last stage of life, his story took such a turn which shook his loved ones. On 6 January 2017, Om Puri passed away at the age of 66. As soon as the news of his demise came out, a wave of mourning ran through the film industry. In the initial news regarding his death, heart attack was mentioned. But when the post-mortem information came out, an injury on his head was found.
According to the report, there was a wound about 1 1/2 inch deep and 4 cm long on his head. His driver told the police that he had seen the actor lying without clothes in the house. After this, the police registered a case of accidental death and started investigation
.But after things came to light, many questions were raised about his death, but it would not be right to claim any conspiracy on the basis of facts. The details related to Om Puri’s death were definitely discussed. But the biggest identity of his life remained his brilliant acting and a journey full of struggles. A child who once cleaned utensils at a tea shop, later became one of the most respected actors of Indian cinema. Om Puri is not among us today but his films and his memorable characters will always remain alive.
